You probably already know that eating a proper diet can help you stay healthy and maintain an idea weight. However, what you may not know is that the food you eat can affect your facial appearance as well. Whether it affects it in a negative or positive way depends on what you eat.
Unhealthy Foods
Red meat contains a high level of animal protein, which is acidic. If you eat too much red meat, your skin cells will not function properly, which can result in premature aging. Additionally, foods that are high in saturated fats such as butter and whole milk can increase the risk of skin inflammation and lead to accelerated aging.
Sweets and refined carbohydrates can have a negative effect on your face as well. This is because these types of food raise the amount of glucose in your blood increasing the production of glycation end products. These end products, in turn, inhibit proper collagen and elastin repair of your skin.
Healthy Foods
When you eat healthy foods, you have a much greater chance of maintaining skin that is young-looking and beautiful. Foods that are rich in antioxidants are your best choice, as they help supply the skin with blood keeping it healthy, hydrated and supple. Some foods in this group include spinach, kale, beans and tomatoes.
Additionally, foods that are high in Vitamin C, Omega-3 fatty acids or linoleic acid can also help keep skin smooth and young-looking. This includes such items as oranges, berries, flax seed and salmon. So, there you have it. If you want to keep your skin looking beautiful, be sure to eat healthy foods each day.
